Okay, I don’t want to go into my background too much on fasting and dieting in this one because I’m probably going to make it a separate post. As soon as I actually write that one out though, I will hyperlink it into this article so you guys can read it.
I don’t know how many of you have heard of alternate-day fasting, I just learned about it 2 days ago. On occasion, I like to do a water fast or liquid diet to kind of clean out my system and reboot my eating habits. I have a long history of overeating, binging, and food addiction. So I started out yesterday with the intention to go on a 3-day water fast and while I was at work (I’m a delivery driver, so I tend to play on my phone a lot at work) I found my way down the YouTube rabbit-hole of alternate day fasting (or ADF).
Essentially it’s where you eat one day, then the next day you just don’t. you just do that over and over again and apparently you lose a ton of weight and your heart gets healthier and your bad cholesterol goes down, blood pressure goes down, and you supposedly feel better also. Seems like there’s no way to lose here. What was really interesting to me was that it is clinically shown to be more sustainable than calorie restriction every day. so basically I eat a crap ton of calories in one day, and then I just starve myself the next and then I get skinny forever? What?! I know right?!
Okay so I got extremely excited about this and I’m going to try it. Maybe it’s all bologna and it won’t work at all. Maybe I’m completely wasting my time. But I’m going to give it the benefit of a doubt and try it and let you know my results!
I already fasted all day yesterday since 8 p.m. the night before, so I’m not going to eat until noon tomorrow. It’ll play out like this…
Fast until noon
Eat whatever I want until 8:00pm
Fast after 8:00
Fast all day. Nothing but water.
Same as Day 1
And on and on and on…..
I am going to try to control my calories a little bit. Most recommendations say that you should eat to your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure, or how many calories your body burns when it takes your physical lifestyle into account). Mine is 2,500 calories a day which is a TON. So I will probably range anywhere from 2,000-2,300. We’ll see though. I’m not going to deny myself anything so maybe I’ll eat more than I’m expecting to? I will keep track of my calories so I can give you guys averages as I go along!
